Elitism in the Boylan Heights Centannial Committee

Once again we have a committee that Joseph Huberman is participating in that gone astray.

This time, it is elitism and missed opportunities.

As the webmaster of the Boylan Heights web site, I am often the contact of last resort for people looking for information about neighborhood events. Usually, it is because the person has missed the email address or phone number listed within an article on the site, but this time it is an actual situation where there is no information to be had as it has been withheld. They have a section set-aside for contact information, but they only have the following statement listed:

"Contact information for the Boylan Heights Centennial will be listed here."

I'm asking "will be listed"? Hello! It's 2007! You all are a little late in finishing up your web site (boylanheights100.org). How bad is it when people have to ask the webmaster of a completely different web site (boylanheights.org) for contact information? Apparently pretty bad.

In the email below, the lack of contact information for the Centennial Committe, which Joseph is a member, is made strikingly apparent.

What is the procedure to be able to participate in 4/21 "Tours & Tunes" and 6/16 Joel Lane House tours events? Thanks and Happy New Year!

This is a very sad statement about how rampant is the elitism of some of the long time residents of Boylan Heights. It's no wonder that many new residents do not feel welcomed here (I have seen more than one email from new residents to this fact).

Finally, seeing as it is now the centennial year for Boylan Heights, it is an amazement to me that the committee did not organize a New Years party to celebrate the arrival of 2007. This seems like a very worrysome oversight on their part.

Hopefully they won't drop the ball (no pun intended) on any other opportunities to celebrate the centennial.

Jeff
