Unbelieveable. Joseph is apparently trying to buy his way into the good graces of the neighborhood with film passes that he just happened to come across. How convenient.
It would appear that in his family of origin, that buying off is the way disagreements were handled.
In such a family, there's no real communication or concern for the other members. As long as the cash keeps coming, nobody complains and nobody learns empathy or respect for other people.
"Johnny, no, I'm not going to your baseball game. I have a business meeting. Here's $50. Go knock yourself out."
