Suddenly and sadly we lost our cat Casey on Tuesday morning. We had been taking her to the NCSU Veterinary Teaching Hospital for an unusual nail bed (claw bed) infection for the past couple of months when on Sunday night she suddenly started having trouble breathing.
We took her to the emergency service that the vet school where they started to treat her immediately, but sadly she did not respond to any therapy.
By Tuesday morning she was in distress -- not able to breath easily on her own -- even in an oxygen tent. With much remorse and sadness, we decided that euthanasia was the kindest thing we could do for Casey.
Casey and I were best buddies. She was always happy to see me and eager to get a good petting or scratching from me. I will miss her terribly.
I will miss the way that she would stand guard outside the bathroom while I or Heather were showering, the way that she would flirt with me while sitting at the foot of the bed while I got ready for work in the morning, the way that she would nuzzle my scalp while I was trying to sleep, and many other things. She was my cat according to Heather. She knew that I had picked her out from Snowflake Rescue and that I was her biggest fan.
She did have trouble relating to our other cats, but was extremely tolerent of children -- a rarity in cats.
I will remember Casey always as a friend who loved me very much and who I loved right back.
I miss you Case Cat,
Jeff G.
